More than $2.6 million is headed to Washington County projects through the state’s Rural Infrastructure Fund, per the Governor’s office. The awards were announced during the Governor’s stop in Vernon on Oct. 13.

What’s coming to our area

  • Holmes Valley Gateway Phase II: $1,436,470.80 to Washington County to cover the rest of the construction and inspection costs for a project that will stabilize and improve about 4.07 miles of road. FDOT is adding another $2,053,677 for the same project.
  • Downtown Chipley parking: $911,980 to the City of Chipley to fix up two public parking lots and build a new one in the historic downtown district, which should make it easier to get to downtown shops and events.
  • Sports complex study: $300,000 to Washington County for a feasibility study on a proposed regional sports and entertainment complex. The idea includes a baseball and softball stadium, lodging and supporting infrastructure.

Part of a statewide program

The Washington County awards are part of $27 million going to 14 small and rural communities across Florida.
